Greetings from Daffodil International University!

The whole world is going through a very tough time now! The corona virus (COVID 19) affects almost every country of the world. Is has been declared as a global crisis. Besides fighting against the corona virus, this is the time to be digitized, to carry on our academic activities using modern technology. DIU has already taken various initiatives to fight against the deadly COVID 19. Through this Newsletter, we have attempted to gather a glimpse of activities that the DIU has accomplished during the Corona pandemic. We are grateful to our well-wishers and stakeholders who are always with us in our journey.


AUPF 2019

Research Team of DIU and Cardio Care General Hospital developed and released beta version of AI solution to detect and track 'COVID-19'

A team of researchers from Department of Public Health, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Unit of Daffodil International University (DIU) and Cardio-Care General and Specialized Hospital has developed a new diagnostic modality to detect COVID – 19; where the researchers are using AI software to detect Covid-19 by analyzing the chest X-ray or images from lung CT scans. By using this AI technology, the health workers/Doctors can instantly diagnose if the suspected person has COVID – 19 or not. Currently, this AI technology can differentiate between COVID 19 and other respiratory illnesses including Pneumonia. Doctors can then follow up with other examinations and lab tests to confirm a diagnosis of the disease. In this research, researchers found that the sensitivity of this AI modality for COVID-19 infection is 96%.

Aiming to protect corona virus, Department of Pharmacy and the Department of Nutrition & Food Engineering of Daffodil International University (DIU) distributed hand sanitizers, soaps and masks among students, teachers and employees at free of cost. Besides, thermal checkup has been imposed in every campus.

Seminar on ‘Outbreak and Prevention of Coronavirus (COVID – 19)’ held at Daffodil International University

With the recent emergence of deadly Coronavirus,Department of Public Health of Daffodil International University and Cardio Care Specialized and General Hospital organized a seminar on ‘Outbreak and Prevention of Coronavirus (COVID – 19)’ today on 3rd March 2020 at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Professor Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Director, Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh; and the national spokesperson Coronaviruswas present at the seminar as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Golam Rahman, Former Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commission, Government of Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh was present as the special guest.

DIU conducted classes through online during vacation on Coronavirus

Aiming to protect coronavirus and abide by the order of keeping close all educational institutions by the Bangladesh Ministry of Education, Daffodil International University as well as all other 15 sister concerns of Daffodil Family all around Bangladesh have taken the initiative to continue classes through online. Teachers have started conducting classes through online using 'Google Classroom' for assignments and presentations, 'Kahut.com' for quizzes and 'Google Meet' platform for live classes.

On 12 March 2020, Thursday under the tagline “Precaution Is Better than Cure”, Daffodil International School English Medium, Dhanmondi branch trained students in proper hand wash and other safety measures to be taken as precautions for the pandemic. Students were also advised to wear masks and maintain social distancing to prevent outspread of the virus.
